Yet another electronic dance music artist is scoring a film. Joining such established artists as Daft Punk and Sonny Moore( AKA Skrillex) is presently in the process of composing original works to be heard on the soundtrack of Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers. Korine is best known for directing the cult classic Gummo.
Spring Breakers will star James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez. The theme that runs through Korine’s work is the life of American youth, which makes contemporary teen-idol Skrillex a logical choice for creating the music behind the film. The film will follow the travails of two teenagers (Hudgens and Gomez) who want to go on spring break vacation, but who lack the means. They will enlist the assistance of a drug dealer played by Franco.
Music supervisor for the latest Wes Anderson movie Moonrise Kingdom and for the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, will be working on the Korine film as well. Poster said that prior to Skrillex being asked to compose the score, he attended one of dubstep master’s shows in New York. Poster noted that he was surrounded by an audience of fans who were all considerably younger than him, but that he still managed to gain an appreciation of the artist's genius.
Poster was first introduced to the music of Skrillex by the Korine himself, who pointed the music supervisor to the artist’s videos on YouTube. Spring Breakers completed filming earlier in 2012 and is slated for an early 2013 release.
Aside from his first motion picture soundtrack, Skrillex is going to be touring with Diplo and other artists starting in Toronto in late July.
