Electronic dance music from Europe has become a trend in the US and the result has been a booming live concert scene generating tens of millions of dollars for the performers. The audience is mainly teenagers and young adults in their early to mid twenties. Tiesto, who is in his mid-forties, has his own private jet and a number of houses around the world as a result of the recent trendiness of his genre.
Benny Benassi first made it big with his hit song Satisfaction, with which he made his name around the world in 2002. Satisfaction was not his first hit, however, as the year before, Benassi had gotten to the top of the Italian and UK charts with the song “I Feel So Fine” which he released under the name KMC. The native of Reggio Emilia, Italy says that he started listening to dance music when he was 15 years old and that his work is greatly influenced by electronica from the 1980s. Benassi got started in music DJing with his cousin Alle and as a part of the Off Limits team.
Benassi is in great demand as a remixer. His criteria for choosing to do a remix? Benassi says that first, he has to like the artist and the track, then he has to be sure that he can do something good with the song. Benassi has worked artists like Outkast, Iggy Pop, Public Enemy and Goldfrapp.
He has created five albums thus far:
His first album, Hypnotica, was released 2003 and featured The Biz, a vocal duo with which Benassi has often collaborated. The Biz consists of Paul French and Violeta Claudia. Hypnotica featured Benassi’s signature song, Satisfaction.
